Collaboration in Marine Biology Research at the Western African Coast are needed

We are a research group of the Centre of Marine Sciences at the “Universidade do Algarve”, Portugal (http://www.ccmar.ualg.pt/), involved in the study of artisanal fisheries of the South and South-West coast of Portugal. Our research interests include: fisheries biology, population dynamics, recruitment, recreational fishing, gear selectivity studies and the impact of gears on the marine ecosystem.

Currently we are additionally involved in collecting and processing of data for the characterization and mapping of habitat/biotopes of the National Ecological Reserve of the South coast of Portugal. We are interested in collaboration with a partner for a research project implementation dealing with one or more of the above mentioned fields of expertise.

  1. We are studying on initiating a project in Sao Tomé & Principe similar to our Ghana project. (See website http://www.rainbowagro.nl). We may need scientific assistance, which preferably comes from Portuguese speaking persons. Is there an English version of your website?

    Pedro,

I was co-chair of a UN sponsored meeting in Cotonou, Benin Republic on the topic “Decision-Making Support For Coastal Zone Management, Water Resources & Climate Change In Africa” that we just concluded last week. Details of the workshop are available here:http://www.czcp.org/workshops/Cotonou/

We had participants from several Marine Institutes across West Africa at the meeting and I can link you up with them to explore collaboration opportunities. Respond to my official work email address (adegokej@umkc.edu) to continue this discussion.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy
